Fewer heads turning up for events during CWG 2010?

IT WAS surely a gala affair without hitch, Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2010 opening ceremony made everyone sit up and take note. But after an extravagant start, the hype over the event has failed to attract spectators. The stadiums are running empty, with athletes not having much options than just performing for the cameras.

Even CWG Federation Chief has uttered distress for the thin attendance.

It is matter of surprise that Delhiites who eagerly awaited this mega events had shown interest only during the opening ceremony. It is evident that cricket crazy India is hardly fascinated by other sports, costly tickets and negative publicity is another added reason. There is lack of awareness on the part of citizens about the Games, do and do not's list lead to people ignorance.

Urban population only cheers for cricket and watching games like wrestling, boxing, shooting etc. are just wastage of time for them. Running on the field/track has always been considered a waste of time, even in the school, in terms of and with respect to academic performance. So disconnection from the CWG events is usual phenomenon as the events in such games are not given their due weightage or accreditation.

Organizing committee should bring down the cost of tickets or come up with innovative ideas so as to attract the maximum number of citizens. But, I still feel traveling in Delhi is difficult, tiresome task , walking some kilometers to stadium and security checking is headache for citizens in games. Standing in traffic jams always makes the matter worse.

India needs to showcase the event in a successful manner for which co-operation is required from the citizens by attending the events and supporting the athletes. It will bring cheers to millions people who have worked hard to make this happen. The experience of seeing an event in person is different and it is not only sports event everyone can see technologically advanced stadium which is world class.
