Lasith Malinga asked to return from IPL

Sri Lankan speed star Lasith Malinga is playing IPL 2011 even when he is not fit to play for his national team in the upcoming Test series against England starting on May 26 in Cardiff. Malinga has a knee injury and he can't bowl long spells, so opted out of the upcoming Test series, but can bowl the required four overs in an IPL match.

Sri Lanka Cricket  umbrage at the pacer and has decided to summon him immediately back to Sri Lanka for a rehabilitation. "It looks a bit awkward when someone says he is injured and continues to play cricket," Sri Lanka's new chairman of selectors Duleep Mendis, a former Lanka captain too, was quoted as saying. "That is the reason why we have decided to write to Malinga and ask him to return home and undergo a rehabilitation programme. Malinga has specifically mentioned in a letter that he is not available for Test matches right now because he has a nagging knee problem."

On the other hand now Sri Lankan Cricket Board has allowed their cricketers to play in the IPL till May 18. Indications are that Lasith will keep playing for Mumbai Indians.
