Preview: England vs West Indies ICC cricket world cup match

M. A. CHIDAMBARAM Stadium in Chennai will host the most important match till date in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 on Thursday, March 17 between England and West Indies. This match will unlock the fate of quaterfinalists from group 'B' of the Cricket World Cup 2011.

South Africa is the only team in the group, whose berth for the quarterfinal in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 is fixed. India has seven points from five matches, whereas West Indies and Bangladesh have six points from four and five matches respectively and England has five points from same number of matches.

Calculation is that, tomorrow if England manages to win against West Indies and in the next match Bangladesh wins against South Africa and in the final group league match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, West Indies wins against India then in between India and England one team will qualify for quarter finals on better run rate.

Other equation is that tomorrow, if West Indies wins against England then automatically India, West Indies and Bangladesh will qualify for the knock out round of the tenth edition of the World Cricket tournament.

With a six-wicket victory against Netherlands, the English team started their campaign in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. In the next match they tied against India, and in their third match lost against Ireland by three wickets. England won by six runs against South Africa in a low scoring match. In the last match against Bangladesh, England lost by two wickets.

The Caribbean team started their World Cup 2011 campaign against South Africa with a seven wicket defeat. In the next two matches, West Indies thrashed Netherlands by 215 runs and routed co-host Bangladesh at their home ground by nine wickets just in 18.5 overs. In the last match against Ireland, West Indies won by 44 runs.

West Indies and England have played 84 matches so far with each other and the record is in favour of Caribbeans by 41-37. During the World Cup matches, the English team won four times whereas lost one match and in the sub-continent condition record is in favour of England by 3-1.
