IN THE first semi final match of the year's biggest sports event, ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori has won the toss and decided to bat first against Sri Lanka at the flat wicket of R. Premadasa Stadium, in Colombo this afternoon.

New Zealand, who is playing its sixth semi final of the Cricket World Cup 2011, has reached the semi finals of the Cricket World Cup on five occasions in 1975, 1979, 1992, 1999 and 2007, but never played even a single final of this mega cricketing event.
Sri Lanka has played semi finals in 1996, 2003, 2007, and final in two times in 1996 and 2007. In 1996, Sri Lanka won the Cricket World Cup trophy.
